Why Extract Text from a PDF?
Sometimes you just need the words — to quote a paragraph, reuse content, paste into a translator, or search a long document. Extracting text gives you clean, copyable plain text without any of the PDF's formatting getting in the way.
How to Extract Text from a PDF (Step by Step)
Step 1: Open the PDF to Text tool Go to the Kinsutools PDF to Text extractor.
Step 2: Upload your PDF Drag and drop your PDF file.
Step 3: Extract Click "Extract Text". The tool reads the text content from every page.
Step 4: Copy or download Copy the text or download it as a .txt file.
Text PDFs vs Scanned PDFs
There are two kinds of PDFs:
- Text-based PDFs — created from a document; the text is selectable and extracts perfectly.
- Scanned PDFs — created from a photo or scanner; they're images of text with no selectable text underneath.
If you can highlight text in your PDF with your cursor, extraction will work. If you can't, the PDF is a scan and needs OCR (optical character recognition) first.
